The installing tool has a lip inside that will bottom out on the end of the crank when the seal is at the proper depth. After that the installing tool can be held up agenst the seal and tapped the rest of the way in with a hammer. Go slow and easy and get it started square.
The seal will start by gently tapping it in with a hammer around the perimeter. The guide is used to place over the end of the crank then the seal can slide over it onto the crank to ensure the lip of the seal doesn't roll under pushing it on the crank.
